David J. Fisher, 92

David J. Fisher, 92, a former resident of Pennington, NJ, passed away on December 29, 2018 in Longwood, FL — the same day his granddaughter gave birth to his great grandson, Noah Michael Fehring. The ‘circle of life’ unfolded that day as two ships passed in the night. Our blessings to both cherished souls.David was born in Flushing, NY on January 21, 1926 to George and Blanche Fisher. He excelled at Bayside High School, graduating 6 months early allowing him to enlist in the U.S. Navy as soon as he turned 18 years of age. His first two years at Hobart College was with the Navy V-12 program and was then commissioned as an officer after attending Notre Dame Midshipmen’s School. He proudly served 3 years active duty in WW-II in the Pacific Ocean Theater as a Lieutenant, mainly aboard minesweepers. Upon completion of college at Hobart in 1948, earning a BA degree in economics and accounting, he continued to serve as a Naval Reserve Officer until 1961.David married the late Margaret V. Peters in 1948, starting their family in Westbury, NY and later moving to Pennington. He is survived by his three children, daughter Pamela Fisher (and her partner, Lauren) of Mission Viejo, CA; two sons, David Fisher (and his wife, Janice) of Manasquan, NJ and Peter Fisher (and his wife, Brenda) of Orlando, FL. He was a devoted grandfather to his two grandchildren, Courtney Fehring (husband, Michael) of Brick, NJ and David Fisher (wife, Mary Pat) of Emmaus, PA.Following accounting positions with Shell Oil Company and Burroughs Corp., David spent the balance of his career with Dow Jones & Company, rising to the position of Manager of Collections & Credits. He served his profession by assuming leadership roles with the Institute of Management Accountants, as President of the Princeton Chapter and National Director. Dave also devoted more than 20 years of active service with Lions Club International, as President of the Pennington Chapter and member of the Pt. Pleasant Lions Club.A long-time member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Pennington, Daviddevoted considerable time and energy to many church activities, including as its Senior Warden and Treasurer. He also was an active member for many years with the Pennington Babe Ruth League, Boy Scouts of America (and George Washington Council) and American Legion Post 339, Hopewell, NJ. Dave was an avid boater and fisherman all his life, and an active participant in the United States Power Squadrons (Barnegat Bay, NJ and Peace River, FL chapters) achieving Pilot and Navigator certifications. While residing in Punta Gorda and Kissimmee, FL in 1990 he married Helen Chestek (Fisher) until her death in 2015.Interment will take place during a private service at his family plot in Flushing Cemetery, NY.
