Sayre Woods Bible Church will hold its annual Drive Through the Christmas Story from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 7-8 and 14-15 on the church property, 2290 Route 9 south, Old Bridge.

Due to the popularity of this event, there may be a wait of up to two hours. Cars go through in the order of arrival and are parked in rows.

There are activities inside while patrons wait; attendees will be called 10-15 minutes prior to starting the tour.

Entry is closed at 8 p.m., or when the maximum car limit has been reached.

Monetary donations and unexpired canned food donations will be accepted for the church’s Bread of Life Food Bin, which serves dozens of families monthly.

The Old Bridge Library will hold a watercolor painting class at 11 a.m. on Nov. 18 at the library, 1 Old Bridge Plaza. Local artist Stephanie Sommerlad Bello will help guide aspiring artists on how to develop the skills necessary to enjoy watercolor painting. No previous art experience is necessary. The Socrates Café will meet at 11 a.m. Nov. 21. This monthly discussion group exchanges thoughtful ideas and experiences. It embraces the central theme of Socratizing, the notion that learning is enhanced by questioning amongst ourselves and others. This month’s topic is: “Socialism vs. Capitalism.” All are welcome.

 

 

This year’s Friends of South Amboy fundraising event will be held on Dec. 21 at South Amboy Middle High School, 200 Gov. Hoffman Plaza, South Amboy.

The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Leonard family, longtime city residents dealing with the recent loss of their husband and father, Pat

Mobile Family Success Center of Middlesex County is seeking musicians, comedians, singers, dancers, magicians and poets for its Rising Stars event, to be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the Sayreville Recreation Department, 167 Main St., Sayreville.

“Words Matter” will be the panel discussion taking place at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Congregation Beth Ohr, 70 Route 516, Old Bridge.

The program, sponsored in part by the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, celebrates the Global Day of Jewish Learning. All are invited.

East Brunswick rabbis Eric Eisenkramer of Temple B’nai Shalom, Jeff Pivo of East Brunswick Jewish Center, and Efraim Unterman of Young Israel will discuss what we can learn from the words or silence of three unique biblical figures. Rabbi Joel Mishkin of Beth Ohr will moderate the discussion. Questions from the audience will be entertained following the formal presentation.

New Beginnings Animal Rescue of East Brunswick will sponsor a Fall Harvest Shenanigans event on from 6-10 p.m. on Nov. 16 at Sayreville VFW Post 4699, 575 Jernee Mill Road, Sayreville.

There will be a buffet dinner, dessert, DJ Mike the Apeman, trivia, games, tricky tray and a 50/50 raffle.

This family-friendly concert will be followed by a Meet-the-Artists reception.

 

T A Sprinkler, Inc. will hold its annual Winter Wonderlights Spectacular from Nov. 30 to Jan. 5, 2020, at the Middlesex County Fairgrounds, 655 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.

There will be Christmas lights, food, hot chocolate and photo opps with Santa.

The 10th annual Hugs for Brady Foundation Winter Gala will be themed “Oh What a Night!,” featuring entertainment from the stars of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys,” on Jan. 25 at The Palace at Somerset Park

The gala honors individuals who have made significant contributions to help those affected by childhood cancer. This year’s honorees are The 2020 Gala Committee as the Ellen Gambatese Pediatric Cancer Volunteer of the Year; Roy G. Svenson as the Brady Buggy Wagon Volunteer of the Year; Steven K. Libutti, director of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, as the Dr. Randy Siegel Pediatric Cancer Medical Humanitarian of the Year; and Kevin Cummings, chairman and CEO of Investors Bank, as the Hugs for Brady Foundation Pediatric Cancer Humanitarian of the Year.
