Hopewell Valley residents receiving water from Trenton Water Works (TWW) will be able to ask utility representatives questions on water quality during a H20pen Forum next week.
The forum will be a two-hour town hall discussion taking place at Stony Brook Elementary School in Pennington from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Sept. 11.
TWW implemented the forums as part of the water utility’s reorganization plan. They were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents will be able to ask not only questions about the quality of TWW’s water, but about topics on infrastructure, capital projects, operations and various programs.
The TWW system provides water to more than 200,000 residents in Trenton, parts of Hopewell Township, Lawrence Township, Ewing and Hamilton. As a water utility, it treats and provides drinking water from water taken out of the Delaware River.
The utility has a 683-mile water distribution system and is owned by the city of Trenton.
In 2022, the New Jersey Department of Enviornmental Protection (NJDEP) had to step in and oversee the operations of TWW after the utility had failed to address issues and conditions with providing safe drinking water for customers.
Last year, the water utility implemented about 170 water-main flushing assemblies in targeted areas in a distribution system that supplies about 29 million gallons of drinking water daily; and conducted a low-velocity water main flushing program for several months to maintain adequate chlorine levels in targeted areas to lessen the growth of Legionella or other organisms that cause diseases.
Additionally, the lead service line replacement program continues. TWW aims to remove all of the lead infrastructure for the system by 2031.
