Joseph P. Costello, 71, of Allentown, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Hopewell.
Born and raised in Trenton, Joe graduated from Steinert High school in 1971. After graduation he attended Pfeiffer College in North Carolina. Joe worked as a Supervisor of Customer Service at the United States Post Office for 32 years. Upon his retirement, Joe began his second career with the State of New Jersey’s Unemployment Office.
In 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, Eva Costello. Together they raised their two sons in Hamilton Township. Joe was an avid supporter of his son’s playing sports. He would often attend their games whether they were playing soccer, baseball and football. He was so proud of them. Joe also loved being a Pop-Pop to his grandkids and seeing their dance recitals, cheer, soccer and baseball.
As a coach for many years, he always had fond memories of coaching for Nottingham Little League. Joe himself also played fast pitch softball, as well as street and ice hockey. Joe was an avid L.A. Dodger fan along with any North Carolina sport teams. He enjoyed the beach, the islands, the sun and especially his 25th wedding anniversary returning to St. Marten with his wife, Eva. He also loved going to the casinos in Atlantic City where he enjoyed playing the slot machines and Roulette. Often times he could be found with his friends catching up and telling stories most mornings at Fred and Pete’s and continued at Hamilton Bagel and Grill.
Predeceased by his parents Joseph Costello and Ann Costello-Wszolek, his father-in-law Carl Newman, his nephew Jimmy Costello, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eva M. (Newman) Costello; his sons, Joseph M. Costello and his wife, Lisa M. Costello, and Michael A. Costello and his wife, Lisa T. Costello; his four grandchildren, Amelia, Violet, Zachary and Ryan; his sister, Luanne and her husband, Rick Radke; his brother, Jim and his wife, Debbie Costello; his nieces and nephews, Melissa, Carissa, Brian, Michael and Taylor; his mother-in-law, Regina Newman; his sister-in-law, Debra Miller; cousins and several great nieces and great nephews along with many close friends. He enjoyed holidays but Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was his favorite and his true passion was spending time with the family.
A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 9-11 am at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A prayer service will begin at 11 am.
Cremation will be private.
