It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Susan Kean, who left us peacefully on September 9, 2024, at the age of 83, after a long and brave battle with cancer.
Born on November 27, 1940, in Canarsie, Brooklyn, NY, Susan was the beloved daughter of Irving and Ray Schwartz. She was the devoted wife of the late Howard Kean, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. They wed in 1960 and spent their early years together in Kew Gardens, Queens, NY, until relocating to Twin Rivers, NJ, in 1971, where she resided until her passing.
A businesswoman at heart, she owned and operated SHK Business Services from her home while raising her family. In later years, she worked as an office manager for several local doctors.
In the early 2000s, she found a love for travel and went on many international trips to places such as
Israel, Egypt, Germany and Nova Scotia. An avid reader, Susan found joy in attending activities at local libraries and engaging with fellow book lovers.
In her later years, she remained active, participating in various programs at the East Windsor Senior Center. She also found pleasure in life’s simple joys: spending time with friends, shopping for bargains, and indulging in her favorite cooking shows on TV.
Susan is survived by her loving children; son, Michael and his wife, Gail, of Antioch, Calif., and daughter, Iris Bensch and her husband, Rich, of Mercerville, NJ; and her adoring grandchildren, Ben and Josh Kean, and Samantha and Danny Bensch.
A Celebration of Susan’s Life will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way in Hamilton, NJ, with a Gathering for friends and family from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., followed by Family Remembrances beginning at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions in Susan’s memory to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton’s Oncology Services by visiting In Memory Of at inmemof.org.
May her memory forever be a blessing to all who loved her.
