FREEHOLD – The Borough Council has adopted a bond ordinance providing for $150,000 in engineering services as part of the preparation of a geographic information system.

Freehold Borough officials adopted the ordinance on Oct. 2 after a public hearing. The adoption followed the introduction of the ordinance on Sept. 18.

The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $140,000 in bonds or notes to finance a portion of the cost of the engineering services, with a down payment of $10,000.

According to the ordinance, the engineering services are for the preparation of a complete municipal utility geographic information system, which can access and produce data for maps.

In other business, the council passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of firefighting equipment.

According to the resolution, items purchased are covered by a contract with ESI Equipment Inc. at a maximum cost of $36,654.

The purchase of the firefighting equipment was authorized after the Freehold Fire Department ordered a replacement combination pumper and rescue truck. Following the order, the fire department required additional equipment for the truck that was more cost effective to purchase separate from the truck’s advertised bid, according to the resolution.

The equipment required by the fire department includes extrication equipment and tools, according to the resolution, and borough officials have deemed the purchase to be consistent with the fire department’s capital equipment replacement program.

Council President George Schnurr and council members Sharon Shutzer, Kevin Kane, Jaye Sims and Ron Griffiths voted to authorize the purchase of the firefighting equipment. Councilman Michael DiBenedetto abstained.

Finally, the council passed a resolution confirming the appointment of Dominica R. Napolitano to the business administrator’s office, effective Oct. 16, and confirming the resignation of Daniel Megill as an engineering aide, effective Oct. 20.
