Donald W. Schoch, 77, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away peacefully in hospice care at Brookdale Hamilton Assisted Living on October 28, 2024. He had been diagnosed with dementia several years prior.
Don was born on February 16, 1947 in Trenton, NJ. Son of the late Donald and Ruth (Lenox) Schoch, he lived in the Hamilton area his entire life.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cynthia McDermott Schoch; his brother-in-law, Girard McDermott; his sister, Diane Schoch Agins; his nieces, Carol Agins Vail, Janice Agins, and Corinne Agins; and his special grandnieces, Alicia Kitner and Emily Albrecht.
Don is also survived by his extended family, Michael and Jade McDermott, David, Michele, Braeden, Cullen and Erinna McDermott, Marcie McDermott Dean, Katelyn and Meghan Dean, Jeremy, Lana and Cody McDermott, Lauran, Remi, Tristan, Liam and Kieran Hocquaux, Gilbert “Chip” Rossi and Kevin and Dawn Kitner. Also, his cherished lifelong friend, Gary (Charlene) Thompson; friends and neighbors, Jeanne Johnson, Tony and Kim Jeannette; and his dogs, Abbey and Misty.
Don graduated from Hamilton High West in 1967. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served two tours in Vietnam. Upon his return home, he worked as a tractor trailer driver until retirement and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 701.
Don enjoyed playing golf, trips to Myrtle Beach, watching all sports on TV and walks in the park with his constant canine companion, Abbey.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Brookdale and the caregivers from Serenity Hospice. Special thanks to Ramon and Manuel from Assured Senior Care who were by Don’s side attending to his comfort and safety overnight.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. There will be no calling hours or services. Private interment will be at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
