Raymond John Ryan, 94, passed away on November 5, 2024.

Raymond was born in New York City on December 20, 1929 to Cornelius Raymond and Helen Ryan, and was brother to Donald Ryan and to Gerald Ryan of Park Ridge, New Jersey.

After graduating from Manhattan College Preparatory School, Raymond attended Manhattan College, earning a BS degree. He served in the US Navy from 1951-1953. He subsequently earned a law degree from Fordham University. He practiced as an attorney for over 40 years in New York, New Jersey, Texas and Pennsylvania. During his career he worked at CBS, BBDO, Oxirane, ARCO and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Raymond married Sybil Lorraine Smith on June 1, 1963. They had three children: Susan C. Ryan, of Weston, Massachusetts, married to Joseph Grocela; Raymond Kevin Ryan, and F. Douglas Ryan who resides in Winston- Salem, North Carolina with his wife, Audrey. Ray enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Allie M. Ryan, Jack D. Ryan, Lucia Ryan, Raymond J. Grocela, Samuel Marco Ryan, Katherine A. Grocela and Michael R. Grocela.

Ray and Sybil retired to Pinehurst in 2000, where they were active members of the community. Ray served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Church. He also enjoyed taking classes at Sandhills Community College every semester. With Sybil, they worked to support the Moore Democratic Party. He was also a member of the Pinehurst Country Club.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil and his son Raymond Kevin Ryan. He is survived by his children Susan and Douglas Ryan and his grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, Nov.11, 2024 at Sacred Heart Church in Pinehurst. A visitation will start at 10 am. Burial will follow at the Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton, NC.
