The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $140,000 in bonds or notes to finance a portion of the cost of the engineering services, with a down payment of $10,000.

According to the ordinance, the engineering services are for the preparation of a complete municipal utility geographic information system, which can access and produce data for maps.

In other business, the council passed a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) as part of the DOT’s Trust Fund Authority Act.

According to the resolution, the Trust Fund Authority Act provides municipalities in the state an opportunity to obtain funds to provide improvements to streets. The resolution authorizes improvements to Francis Drive and Vredenburgh Avenue to be included in the borough’s request for funding from the state on the recommendation of Borough Engineer William Wentzien and other officials.

The borough has previously used these funds to effectuate and plan improvements to Court Street, Monument Street, McLean Street, Kiawah Avenue, Broad Street, West Main Street, Jerseyville Avenue, Barkalow Avenue, Monmouth Street, Ann Street, Center Street, Sheriff Street, Hull Avenue, West George Street, Throckmorton Street, Marcy Street, Murray Street, Schiverea Avenue, Phyllis Road and Brinkerhoff Avenue, according to the resolution.

Finally, the council passed a resolution confirming the appointments of Melissa McLeana and Donna Fernandez as substitute school crossing guards; and Joseph Fortunato and Frank Krause as drivers from the Good Hill Hook & Ladder Company of Freehold Fire Department vehicles.

Council members Sharon Shutzer, Michael DiBenedetto, Kevin Kane and Ron Griffiths voted in the affirmative on the action taken at the meeting. Council President George Schnurr and Councilman Jaye Sims were absent.
