PLAINSBORO – The Plainsboro public library gallery presents an exhibition of nature photography by Julie Lee. “Catch the Moment!” features exquisite shots of the swan in motion and details of the lotus blossom, a combination that conveys a sense of peace and beauty. An art reception will be held Sunday, Aug. 14, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. The show runs July 30 – Aug. 24, 2016.
Although Ms. Lee’s background is in mechanical engineering and mathematics, she wrote regularly for four Chinese online magazines, many times integrating other photographer’s images into her articles. She began to feel that the photos weren’t a great fit to her writing, and so began to shoot her own. She focuses on beautiful things in their natural settings, capturing landscapes, plants, trees, human beings, animals, and even historical sites. In “Catch the Moment!” the viewer can see many similarities between the swan and the lotus.
“The mute swan is my favorite waterfowl, for years I have taken their photos. They are elegant and beautiful with different postures and views. They look so fascinating, especially when swim calmly and bath enthusiastically in water. A lotus flower has a lot of meanings in different cultures. It is rooted in soiled mud, is born in water, grows in water and rises out of water to stand above it unsoiled. So we, born in the world, raised in the world should overcome the world and live unsoiled by the world,” said Lee.
A resident of Monmouth Junction, Ms. Lee is a member of the Princeton Photography Club and the Photographic Society of America.
