The GPYO is celebrating a great season of music with a finale performance by the Concert Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra at 7PM on June 9, 2024 at Richardson Auditorium on the campus of Princeton University.

The Concert Orchestra includes arrangements of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 and the Jerry Brubaker arrangement of the 1812 Overture by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.   The Concert Orchestra also performs the Pavane for Orchestra by Gabriel Faure’.  Led by Mr. Joseph Pucciatti, a former music educator from the Trenton School District, the Concert Orchestra is the intermediate to advanced ensemble of the GPYO.

The Symphonic Orchestra performance under Dr. Jiannan Cheng begins with Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdink.  The concert includes Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor, Movement 1 and concludes with L’Arlésienne Suite No.2 by Georges Bizet.  The Rachmaninoff concerto features Alexia Fang as the piano soloist.  She is this year’s winner of GPYO’s Matteo Giammario Concerto Competition for top student musicians in the GPYO.

The Competition is named for Matteo Giammario, the founder of the GPYO and a former music educator in the Trenton School District, who recently celebrated his 99th birthday.  Even in retirement, Matteo is actively involved in composing and arranging music; the GPYO Board named the concerto competition after Maestro Matteo in recognition of his lifetime commitment to music education and performance advancementfor the student musicians in the area.

The GPYO celebrates over 60 years as a top regional youth ensemble with levels for the talented young musicians throughout the region.
