MIDDLETOWN — Cooking chili or enjoying this America favorite will be on the menu when the fifth annual Chili and Cornbread Cook Off is held on Feb. 25.

The Middletown United Methodist Church, which is located at 924 Middletown-Lincroft Rd., will serve as the host to the event that will kick off at 5 p.m.

The church urges all cooks to submit their finished product that will be judged in the following categories: “The People’s Choice,” “Most Flavorful,” “Hottest,” “Most Unique” and “Most Traditional.”

The cornbread categories will include the “People’s Choice,” “Most Unique,” “Most Flavorful” and “Best gluten-free.”

The judges will present certificates of achievement and appreciation.

Each year at this event, the church recognizes a member of the community to honor and thank for their commitment to helping others.

According to Church Pastor Eric Doherty, Nut Swamp Elementary School was honored last year.

“Last year we thanked them for welcoming our congregation to worship there while our new church was under construction over 50 years ago.” he said. “This year, we will again highlight someone or group for their outstanding service to others.”

Like who will be the winners of the chili cooking contest, this year’s honoree will not be announced until the evening of the event.

Cooks and visitors who will taste their appetites, must register by emailing Linda Bardell at [email protected].
