NORTH BRUNSWICK – The 18th annual Care to Walk 5K Walk/Run succeeded once again in its mission of raising tens of thousands of dollars for breast and ovarian cancer research.
Family, friends and faculty members of North Brunswick Township High School gathered on the school’s football field on Oct. 23 to honor survivors while remembering those lost to the disease.
“[T]his year, the club had one of the greatest turnouts in club history,” Alison Peterman, a Care to Walk advisor who is a member of the English Department at the high school, said through a statement provided by school Principal Pete Clark. “The club raised approximately $18,000 in event registrations and donations and an additional $6,000 in school and community fundraisers. In total, the Care to Walk community- and school-organized club grossed their highest amount, totaling approximately $24,000.”
The recipient of the donation is the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, which has received more than $100,000 from the club over the years.
Peterman and fellow faculty advisor Carolyn Hassenkamp were joined by student officers Nicole Illicic, Michelle Abraham, Suhani Baranwal, Riddhi Bhagat, Catalina Rodriguez, Natalia Rodriguez and Anum Kazmi.
“[We] could not be more proud of the outcome. Congratulations to all,” Peterman said.
