METUCHEN — Elizabethtown Gas has repaired its gas line at New Street and Lake Avenue, which was damaged by a third party contractor last night, Nov. 3.

The incident occurred after 6:30 p.m., which prompted road closures in the area.

A Nixle alert was posted by the borough around 7:30 p.m.

“This was not necessarily a gas leak, but damage to our line,” said Duane Bourne, spokesman for Elizabethtown Gas, who said he did not have the name of the third party contractor.

He added that the damage to the line was not out of the ordinary in an area of construction.

“We isolated the problem and fixed it,” he said.
