Bordentown Township Police Department ‘honors and celebrates’ its Black officers

During Black History Month, the Bordentown Township Police Department has taken the opportunity to honor and celebrate their Black officers who “provide excellent service and contributions to the community daily.”

Police Sgt. Anthony S. Biddle II

Police Sgt. Anthony S. Biddle II was born and raised in Bordentown Township, graduated from Bordentown Regional High School, and attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md. where he received a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Biddle II is the first Black officer hired by the Bordentown Township Police Department in October 2001 and is currently a supervisor in the patrol division and serves the department as a firearms instructor, field training officer and member of both the department’s bicycle patrol squad and honor guard.

Officer Adam Edwards

Officer Adam Edwards has been employed with the department since 2014 and is a graduate of the Mercer County Police Academy. Edwards is currently the department’s School Resource and Juvenile Officer as well as a Physical Fitness and Defensive Tactics Instructor.

Edwards is very active in the township’s school community and has formed a Mentoring Young Men program at Bordentown Regional High School, oversees the department’s popular Youth Academy every summer and assisted in establishing a Student Voices group in the district which is a collection of students who meet to discuss racial issues in the world and within the township’s own community.

Ptl. Joshua Gardner

Ptl. Joshua Gardner is a 2012 graduate of Bordentown Regional High School and was hired by the department in August 2017. He then attended the Camden County Police Academy where he received the overall Physical Fitness Award out of 110 recruits.

During his tenure with the department, Gardner has become a member of the department’s Honor Guard, is certified in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and is a 2020 recipient of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving award (MADD Award) which is presented to the department’s top DWI (driving while intoxicated) producers.

Officer Mark Sherman

 

Officer Mark E. Sherman II joined the department in March 2021 after spending 14 years with the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department. In his law enforcement career, he has also served as a patrolman for Hopewell Township in Mercer County and a SLEO (special law enforcement officer) II for the Willingboro Township Police Department.

Sherman graduated from the Burlington County Police Academy in 2007. Since then, he has earned many certifications and trained in various disciplines. He is a certified sniper/observer, Firearms Instructor, Taser Instructor, completed S.W.A.T. school in Philadelphia, and is an armorer of Sig Sauer and Glock pistols.
